Land Information Access Association invites professional and amateur photographers to enter their best work in a new photo essay contest called Picture Your Place!
This unique contest is part of a grand celebration of the region's special places and the one year birthday of YourPlace Magazine.
Photographers are invited to showcase aspects of the Grand Traverse Region's various communities, including important cultural sites and natural resources - both familiar and little known places. The entries should be designed to provoke thought about what people value most in our Region and how these spaces affect our lives. Entries must include a photograph and a short essay to help explain the photographer's point of view.
There is no entry fee. Entrants may submit up to three photographs and essays for consideration. We seek submissions in the following four categories: Places of Natural Beauty, Places of Cultural Value, Places to Recreate, and Places to Work. There will be a $150 cash award for first place in each category. Prizes totaling $1,200 will be awarded. Entries must be submitted by 5:00 pm, Friday, November 2, 2007. Entries will be judged by a panel of local arts professionals.
Winning photos and essays will be exhibited at the Grand Traverse Heritage Center at a special exhibit to open on November 14th. The public is invited to an opening reception and awards ceremony at the Heritage Center on the evening of Wednesday, November 14, 2007 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
